Author Sharon Draper stands up for the nation’s libraries as part of “Our Authors, Our Advocates.”

While the economic downturn continues to fuel a surge in library use, it has also sparked a disturbing national trend of severe funding cuts for U.S. libraries. Data from the American Library Association’s 2010 State of America’s Library Report shows 41 percent of the states experienced a decline in state funding for public libraries during the current fiscal year. This has been compounded by reductions of funding at the local level — creating a snowball effect that impacts millions of people that rely on library service.

Its time to start saving for a Twilight must-have. Are you ready for the New Moon DVD? Get the details right now.

Hi Twilighters. Dana Ward here at our Clevver TV Beverly Hills headquarters.

The release date for New Moon is official. You can buy your own DVD starting March 20th.

According to reports, the New Moon disc will feature some extras like exclusive rehearsals with Muse showcasing music from the soundtrack, a 6-part documentary about making the film, commentary from the editor as well as director Chris Weitz and finally, three music videos.

Summit definitely had on its thinking cap when planning the release date. Since its on a weekend actually its on a Sunday stores selling the DVDs (and Blu-Ray discs too) easily have the option to throw a midnight release party. Any of you guys thinking about going??

What happens if an authors book does not sell and they have already spent their advance? Will they have to pay the publisher the amount they received as an advance?
I’m so confused.. one says yes and the other no.. could someone please clarify
Everyone seems so split on this..

The publisher takes on the risk that the book won’t sell… that’s why publishers are so picky about choosing books to publish! It’s not the author’s fault that the publisher didn’t market the book well, or that the publisher decided to publish a book that nobody likes. They can’t take back the advance they paid for that book.

The author won’t get royalties… that’s the financial hit the author will take.

Every contract is different, but I’ve NEVER heard of an author agreeing to sell his story to a publisher with a "I Swear My Book Will Make You Money" guarantee with full refund of the advance if it doesn’t actually work out.
